FOIA Request Sent to Hidalgo County NM Clerk & Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Hidalgo County NM Clerk & Election Division regarding a comprehensive list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. The request was made on February 5, 2025.

The request, sent by Enchantment State News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, is made under the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act, 14-2-1 NMSA 1978 et seq.

We are seeking information about each candidate’s first, middle and last names, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office and their party affiliation. Additionally, we have requested contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number and email address.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await response from the Hidalgo County NM Clerk & Election Division and will continue our efforts to provide comprehensive coverage of local governmental affairs.
