Dulce man receives seven-year sentence for assault by strangulation

A Dulce resident, Kayiliab Haines, was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison for assaulting a woman by strangulation. The incident occurred between April 7 and April 8, 2024. Haines, who is 34 years old and an enrolled member of the Jicarilla Apache Indian Tribe, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Upon completion of his prison term, Haines will be placed on supervised release for three years. There is no parole available in the federal system.

The case was investigated by the Jicarilla Apache Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meg Tomlinson. Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison announced the sentencing.
