The Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office reminded Albuquerque Public Schools students on April 23 that the submission deadline for the 2026 “I Voted” Sticker Contest is May 1.
The contest aims to engage young people in civic participation by inviting elementary, middle, and high school students across APS to submit original sticker designs under the theme “Voting Is Your Superpower.” Winning entries will be distributed at voting locations during the county’s general election later this year.
Students may submit either hand-drawn or digital artwork, but all submissions must be original and cannot use artificial intelligence. The selected winners will be notified before the end of the current school year. A formal recognition ceremony is planned for September at a Bernalillo County Commission meeting.
This outreach effort seeks to foster early involvement in elections and encourage lifelong engagement with democracy among youth. Additional information about entry forms and instructions can be found on the county’s official elections page or by contacting local officials via phone or email.
Meanwhile, concerns about public safety have been raised in Bernalillo County as suspects have reportedly been released without required GPS monitors. In one case highlighted by the District Attorney, Jawid Yaqubi was accused of aggravated assault involving a firearm but was released from custody despite efforts from prosecutors to keep him detained until trial.
As Bernalillo County continues its outreach to youth through initiatives like the sticker contest, issues surrounding public safety and pretrial release remain prominent topics within the community.
