An Arizona man has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for assaulting a one-month-old child, according to an announcement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico.
Court documents show that Logan Nelson, 22, who is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, assaulted the infant multiple times in October 2022. The final incident occurred on October 15, 2022, resulting in a fracture to the baby’s left arm and several additional fractures in the legs and ribs.
Nelson pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury. After serving his prison sentence, he will be placed under supervised release for three years. There is no parole in the federal system.
