NM State lost to Missouri State 14-8 on May 8 in the first game of a three-game baseball series at Route 66 Stadium. The Aggies are now 19-29 overall and have an 8-17 record in Conference USA play.

The game saw NM State take an early lead with a sacrifice fly from Tommy Meluskey in the second inning, followed by a home run from Boston Vest in the fourth. The team’s biggest offensive push came during the sixth inning, when they scored five runs, including a two-run double by Jonatan Clough, a two-run home run from Aidan Lombardi, and an RBI single by Aidan Taclas that put them ahead 8-5.

Missouri State responded with nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to retake control of the game. NM State added another run on a solo home run by Easton Rulli in the ninth but could not close the gap. Clough had two hits and two RBIs, while Lombardi went three-for-four with two RBIs and two runs scored as NM State collected eleven hits.

Lombardi has now hit home runs in two of his last three games after only hitting two homers over his first thirty games this season. He also recorded seven total bases for a new season high. Steve Solorzano extended his hitting streak to ten games—the longest active streak for any Aggie this year—and it marks his third career streak of ten or more games.

The Aggies have logged ten or more hits in four of their last six games and matched their season high with three home runs during Friday’s contest. They have hit multiple home runs in five out of their last ten games.
